MED Looks To Get Social

It was standing room only today at the Colorado Department of Revenue Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED) Rule Making Work Group meeting.

There appears to be interest in social consumption of marijuana based on the turnout at today’s MED Rule Making Work Group meeting.

Pursuant to HB 19-1230, MED needs to set the rules around social consumption of cannabis. The bill is designed to alleviate the conundrum of legal weed with nowhere for tourists to smoke it. Colorado residents have only their personal residences. [Technically speaking, there are a few dozen hotels that allow cannabis use as well as driving tours where you can smoke weed in a private vehicle.]

The crowd today at MED headquarters in Lakewood was interested in the details of public, social consumption of marijuana, such as whether bars will be allowed to offer both alcohol and pot, and what hours of operation these “Marijuana Hospitality Businesses” will be allowed to operate.

A public hearing will be held on October 15th, click here for more info.

20/20 Growth is planning a conference on the public policy issues surrounding cannabis early next year. There will be a breakout session dedicated to the evolving and forth coming challenges of allowing for social consumption.
